What is Image Makers?

Women in Film & Video members, local production professionals and area businesses volunteer their talent, time and resources to assist area youth in the production of thirty-second public service announcements. Image Makers provides these young people with the tools to learn about the script-to-screen production process, as well as expose them to the various types of jobs available in the industry. The youth also discover how to make their message powerful and persuasive, and how to look more critically at the messages they see in the media. The youth make their PSAs for local non-profit organizations so that they have the opportunity to perform their own community service and in addition have an authentic experience with a "client" in need of a PSA. WIFV membership also gets a chance to participate in a multi-pronged community service.

How the Program Works:

The Image Makers program consists of a 12 week series of seminars during which youth from the D.C. me tro area participate in producing thirty second Public Service Announce me nts (:30 PSA) for local community organizations. The seminars cover all aspects of pre-production, production and post- production, providing each participant with a hands-on experience. The schedule is broken up into three days of pre-production, three days of production and three days of post-production. There is an orientation day to get things started and an award reception to wrap the program.

Image Makers is a contest. The students' work is judged by a panel of award winning film and video professionals. All three PSAs are broadcast on local television stations as well as being screened at the annual WIFV Women of Vision Awards Gala.
